Diabetes mellitus often referred to simply as diabetes is a syndrome of disordered metabolism usually due to a combination of hereditary and environmental causes, resulting in abnormally high blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia. Diabetes mellitus refers to the group of diseases that lead to high blood glucose levels due to defects in either insulin secretion or insulin action.
All forms of diabetes have been treatable since insulin became
medically available in 1921, but there is no
permanent cure. The injections by a syringe,
insulin pump, or insulin pen deliver insulin,
which is a basic treatment of few forms of diabetes.
The other form of diabetes is managed with a
combination of dietary treatment, medications
and insulin supplementation.
Jeevandeep Hospital started its one of the most Valuable "Diabetes Control Program" (DCP) in 2004 which is being successfully running since then.
It has been rendering in valuable services to around 300 diabetic patients at a nominal charge of Rs. 300 a year. Under this programme, Blood Sugar, Blood Pressure, Pulse Rate and the body weight of the patient is examined and recorded every month at various places fixed for this purpose. Many patients including about 100 patients of Nepal too are availing of this facility.
